The Race Equality Foundation's Better Health website provides a forum to access and discuss the Better Health Briefing Papers. These evidence-based papers provide information and guidance on a variety of issues including: the impact of personal or institutional racism upon black and minority ethnic service users and staff, the limitations which exist in the provision of culturally, ethnically and linguistically appropriate health services, the obstacles to the participation and engagement of black and minority ethnic service users in health services, including segregation, dispersal or language, the intersections between age, disability, gender, faith, poverty and ethnicity and best practice examples to tackle discrimination and disadvantage. With a supplementary collection of related resources and weblinks, the site also highlights the changing legislative background to equality issues, providing staff with guidance to help embed good practice in their everyday work. Frontline staff are encouraged to get involved, with a forum to discuss the papers and resources, and to share ideas and good practice.

The Landmap Digital Elevation Model (DEM) Collection provides elevation data at 25m resolution and was derived with European Remote Sensing (ERS) data using an interferometry technique. The clickable interface allows a 100km square section of the DEM to be downloaded in Grid format. The data can be used for a range of applications requiring height data. When combining the DEM with other remote sensing imagery 3D visualisations can be generated.

The Landmap European Remote Sensing (ERS) Collection consists of radar satellite images. ERS images provide an excellent alternative to optical data as radar data is unaffected by cloud cover and can be acquired either night or day as the sensor is active. The data can be used for research in the areas of agriculture, forestry, geology and glaciology. Data is acquired using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technique. The archive consists of around 150 images covering the UK and Republic of Ireland between 1995 - 1999.

The Landmap Landsat 4 & 5 collection consists of 32 satellite images acquired during 1988-1992. The Nearest Neighbour resampling method was implemented. The data is available for download in a range of formats these are: - 25m Bands 3,2,1 (GeoTiff); 25m Bands 3,2,1 stretched (GeoTiff & JPEG) and 25m Bands 1,2,3,4,5,7 (Imagine). Bands 3,2,1 are otherwise known as true colour composite. The data has been orthorectifed using Kinematic Global Positioning System (KGPS) and European Remote Sensing (ERS) data to supply the Ground Control Points (GCP) and the Landmap Digital Elevation Model (DEM) for elevational data (25m resolution). Landsat 4 and 5 are useful for soil, vegetation, classifying forest and land cover applications.

Landmap Service - Radar

The Radar Collection is the imagery section of the Landmap website where you can discover information about satellites that acquire radar data and radar data available from the Landmap data archive. The ASAR data is collected as part of the ESA Catergory 1 Project 'Monitoring the state of the British Isles with ASAR and MERIS' which involves collaborative work with UCL and Mimas. The ASAR radar data are updated on a biannual basis.

Landmap Service - Landmap DEM (25m)

The Landmap Digital Elevation Model (DEM) Collection provides elevation data at 25m resolution and was derived with European Remote Sensing (ERS) data using an interferometry technique. The clickable interface allows a 100km square section of the DEM to be downloaded in Grid format. The data can be used for a range of applications requiring height data. When combining the DEM with other remote sensing imagery 3D visualisations can be generated.

Landmap Service - ERS 1

The Landmap European Remote Sensing (ERS) Collection consists of radar satellite images. ERS images provide an excellent alternative to optical data as radar data is unaffected by cloud cover and can be acquired either night or day as the sensor is active. The data can be used for research in the areas of agriculture, forestry, geology and glaciology. Data is acquired using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technique. The archive consists of around 150 images covering the UK and Republic of Ireland between 1995 - 1999.

Landmap Service - Landsat 4/5

The Landmap Landsat 7 Collection consists of 24 satellite image scenes from 1999-2001. The data has been orthorectifed using Kinematic Global Positioning System (KGPS) and European Remote Sensing (ERS) data to supply the Ground Control Points (GCP) and the Landmap Digital Elevation Model (DEM) for elevational data (25m resolution). The Nearest Neighbour resampling method was implemented. The data is available for download in a range of formats these are: 15m Panchromatic (GeoTiff & JPEG); 25m Bands 3,2,1 (GeoTiff); 25m Bands 3,2,1 stretched (GeoTiff & JPEG) and 25m Bands 1,2,3,4,5,7 (ERDAS Imagine). Bands 3,2,1 are otherwise known as true colour composite. Landsat 7 is useful for vegetation and land cover applications.

Landmap Service - ASAR Wide Swath

Landmap ENVISAT Wide Swath Collection consists of greyscale 8 bit and 32 bit radar satellite images in GeoTiff and ECW format. Aquired in their raw format from the European Space Agency (ESA) the data has been processed and projected into British National Grid. Wide Swath data lends itself to studies on a national scale and can be used for applications such as soil moisture estimation, vegetation mapping and wind/wave modelling.

Landmap Service - ASAR Image Mode

The Landmap ENVISAT Image Mode Collection consists of greyscale radar images and multi difference colour radar images acquired from the ENVISAT satellite. Acquired from an active radar sensor the greyscale images are data rich being 16 bit in depth for the raw imagery and 32 bit depth after processing. The Image Mode collection covers the UK and during aquisition is unaffected by cloud cover. The raw data was originally supplied by the European Space Agency (ESA). Image Mode data can be used to assess ground movement such as subsidence, inland water and rate of snow melt. Data available from 2004 onwards and updated biannual for the whole of the UK.
