| The Eurostat New Cronos database contains high quality macroeconomic and social statistics data organised into nine statistical themes; General Statistics, Economy and Finance, Population and Social Conditions, Industry, Trade and Services, Agriculture and Fisheries, External Trade, Transport, Environment and Energy, Science and Technology. It contains high quality macroeconomic and social statistics data covering not only European Union (EU) Member states but also many of the central European countries, Japan, the United States and the main economic partners of the EU. | The Information Environment Service Registry (IESR) is a machine readable registry of electronic resources. The aim is to create a reliable source of information to enable other applications to discover and use materials which will help their users' learning, teaching and research. The important difference between the IESR and other online directories is that the IESR is designed to be accessed by other applications as a machine-to-machine service, rather than simply as a web interface for human users. The IESR contains information about the resources themselves, technical details about how to access the resources, and contact details for the resource providers. The IESR is a developmental service and as such the focus is to describe resources provided by institutions within UK further and higher education, or those that are funded or supported by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC). The resources described cover all disciplines. | en-gb | A description for the JISC Information Environment Service Registry collection. |
Guidelines
The description should not be longer than 150 words and should be written in complete sentences using the inverted pyramid style. The inverted pyramid puts the most important information at the top, and then the remaining information follows in order of importance. Abbreviations may be used but should be explained in full, for instance: IESR (Information Environment Service Registry). Avoid information that dates quickly. Ensure that the information matches other properties in the record.
Use the title of the collection within the first sentence. The first sentence should also attempt to state what the collection is, or the type of the collection. For instance:
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Industrial Demand Supply databases are annual time series data.
The rest of the description may describe:
- the form of the collection
- broad subject coverage
- broad temporal coverage, and whether this is specific to certain time periods
- broad spatial coverage, and whether this is specific to certain geographical areas
- the language of the collection
- the audience for the collection
- the strength of the collection
- who commissioned the collection and why
- why the collection is important and/or useful
- any use that may be made of the collection
Do not include:
- a description of the organisation that owns or provides the collection; this is covered in the appropriate agent record
- the format of the collection; this may be covered in the Item Format property
- copyright, licensing and registration agreements; these are covered in the Copyright, Use Rights and Licence properties
- any software required to access the collection; this is not part of the collection's properties and is covered in the service record(s)
Enter the information as a single paragraph of unstructured text. Do not use (X)HTML tags. Formatting tags, such as italics, must not be included. Enclose normally italicised words within single quotes. If a list is required it should be preceded with a colon, with list items separated by semi-colons. Some non-keyboard characters may be included as SGML character entities; no others are available.
