Metadata Reviews

During the course of the IESR project several metadata reviews have taken place with consequent updating of the IESR metadata.

Version Naming

A particular version of the IESR metadata ia named by the date on which it was defined, i.e. yyyy-mm-dd, e.g. 2005-09-06. [Note that earlier versions were named by numbers (eg. 2.0), but this naming style is now deprecated.]

XML Schema

The XML schema corresponding to a metadata version yyyy-mm-dd is at http://iesr.ac.uk/schemas/yyyy/mm/dd/iesr.xsd, with all associated sub-schemas in the same directory, e.g. http://iesr.ac.uk/schemas/2005/09/06/iesr.xsd. The appropriate schema version is named specifically in XML records published from IESR, which correspond to that version.

When a schema version changes, all IESR records are regarded as being 'modified' because the named schema will change, and there will be potential changes to the data.

The latest version of the XML schema is available at http://iesr.ac.uk/schemas/xsd/iesr.xsd. This is for information only, and is not guaranteed to be stable.

The initial version of the XML schema was not named according to this convention. It remains at http://iesr.ac.uk/profile/xsd/iesr.xsd (or http://iesr.ac.uk/profile/2005/02/08/iesr.xsd).

Application Profile

The Application Profile corresponding to a metadata version yyyy-mm-dd is at http://iesr.ac.uk/profile/yyyy/mm/dd/, e.g. http://iesr.ac.uk/profile/2005/09/06/. The latest version of the Application Profile is at http://iesr.ac.uk/profile/.

IESR Metadata Terms

The IESR Metadata Terms corresponding to a metadata version yyyy-mm-dd is at http://iesr.ac.uk/terms/yyyy/mm/dd/, e.g. http://iesr.ac.uk/terms/2005/09/06/. The latest version of the IESR Metadata Terms is at http://iesr.ac.uk/terms/.

Application Profile Vocabularies

The Application Profile Vocabularies document corresponding to a metadata version yyyy-mm-dd is currently at http://iesr.ac.uk/profile/vocabs/yyyy/mm/dd/, e.g. http://iesr.ac.uk/profile/vocabs/2005/09/06/. The latest version of the Application Profile Vocabularies document is at http://iesr.ac.uk/profile/vocabs/. It is anticipated that eventually this lastest version will be generated 'on the fly' by the appplication, maintaining only the change history rather than complete previous versions.
